Laptop for Engineering

Hi everyone! I was just wondering what type of laptop I should get for engineering next year. I am not familiar with Mac but willing to learn. I am not a computer person and do not really know about specs and what's better than something else. My budget is anything under $1300ish. Any help is appreciated! (going to Mac if that changes anything)

The Only Majors to Go to University For
Ok so I see high school kids talk about going into art or business, and I think to myself, " well I will be seeing you in four years making my coffee". So I have to write this, because I fell for the trap. Every year high school kids think about going to university and spending thousands of dollars to study a hobby. I attended queens commerce for my undergrad, and learned the hard way. College majors such as English, political science, business, social sciences, humanities, psychology are all scams(to the most part). In this forum, business major seems to be the most popular, as I was one a couple of years ago. When I got accepted, I was so happy because I heard all the good stories of students going to work at big financial and consulting firms. This is not true. In theses so called " top Canadian business schools", the students are misinformed. Only a few and I mean a few go work in these big firms, while the rest works at crappy places. Today, everyone has a business major, so the job market is sh*t. Majors like English and humanities, are the biggest scam also, because high school kids think they are hoping to be the next Shakespeare, but instead they will be making sandwiches at McDonalds. Also pre med is another scam. If you major in biology, but do not get into med school, you are then useless. Unless you spend 5-6 years getting a PhD, your bio degree has 0 value. As the job market gets tougher and tougher, people need to realize that only a handful of college majors make the student more valuable. Examples, such as engineering, accounting and computer science. I wanted to rant about this because High school kids need to know about the trap of university majors.

I've been looking faarrr and wide for an answer, on like android forums & whatnot, but can't seem to find one... so gonna try my luck in a student forum! lol. you guys have technological knowledge, so why not give it a try?

so many humble thanks in advance if you read this and you've got an answer. I'm desperate. and my mom's gonna whoop my ass if I try to get a new one (currently saving all the meager $$ I got for uni tuition, ain't gonna spend it on a phone).

I have a TTC metro pass (it's a card for public transit in Toronto) and like credit cards or library cards or whatever, it has a magnetic strip on the back.

Now i've been keeping it in the back of my phone case for convenience. The magnetic strip side is facing the back of the phone.

I've been keeping it like this for the whole month now, and just recently a strip of surface area on the phone screen doesn't seem to be working. Can't press anything in that expanse of phone screen, particularly the middle.  I downloaded a screen touch test app, and the whole screen is responsive except for that strip down the phone screen.

Initially I chalked it up to the fact that I updated this 2 year old nexus 4 to android 5 (lollipop) some time ago and it was just glitching, but when I took the metro pass out, I realised that the strip of irritatingly unresponsive phone surface was also suspiciously the same area where the magnetic strip on the card is placed.

So naturally, I attempted googling this foolishness up, but to no avail.

could anyone let me know if it's possible for a magnetic strip to affect a phone's touch screen? just so I can explain to my mother as she writes me out of the family will for wasting money? thanks guys, just been tearing my hair out for the past couple of hours.

AFM Laptops: Macbook pro vs dell xps 13
I'm going to waterloo for accounting and financial management and I don't know if I should choose a macbook or a normal windows laptop. I know people say that you need a windows operating system but I've read reviews and i'm kind of not sure if the dell xps 13 is worth the risk. Would I be fine for the next 4 years using a macbook or is there a better laptop out there?

Actuarial Science or CS
Help! I still don't know what program I should go for!

I am thinking of doing CS or actuarial science. I don't really have background in any of this but I enjoy mathematics and am doing pretty well in it right now.

If I choose CS, I will have to learn some basic programming before going off to university. Some of the uni website mentioned that it is okay for me not to have any knowledge in programming though.
Also, I heard that compared to actuarial science, it is easier to find job with a CS degree?

If I choose actuary, well, I don't think a lot of people study it before going to university, so I won't be left too far behind, everyone will have fair start. But then it is tough to find a job now. Moreover there are many exams to take?

So, CS or actuarial science?

Ipad as a laptop?
Hey everybody,

So I'm starting my undergrad in September and I'm trying to figure out what computer to buy. I'm in architecture, but apparently we don't use any drafting software until late second year in my program so I'm going to hold off on getting a powerful laptop until then.

For now I just need something to write essays on and take notes with, and as my tablet just died, I was wondering if I would be able to get by with just an Ipad (with a keyboard)? I have an iMac, so I would do most of my work on that.

I've also looked at just buying a cheap pc laptop, or 2 in 1 hybrid laptop, but the latter gets kind of expensive, and I also hate windows -.-

So Ipad as a laptop? Yay or nay?

Waterloo Computer Science
Hey guys!
I'm a grade 12 student who is enrolling into Waterloo Computer Science (non-coop) this upcoming September.

I have no prior programming experience and I'm wondering what language I should start off with to prepare myself for Computer Science. I'm thinking about starting off with C++ as I heard it was one of the more complexer languages and it will make it easier on me when we begin with a more basic language in CS.

If anyone is in CS at any school, I'd like to hear your insight on what you think I should do to prepare myself for this upcoming fall season. I also would like to know if it would be better to go in with where I'm at (which is 0%) or if I should try to gain some sort of experience in programming to help prepare myself better. I'm hesitant as I heard that if I am not properly taught, I may form "bad coding habits" which will eventually be harder to fix later on.

I'm really nervous and intimidated by everyone going in with a lot of programming experience and I kind of want to enter on the same level as everyone else.

I would appreciate any feedback so please help a brotha out!

also if anyone could give me some advice on what I could do over the summer to land an intership.... yeaa

University of Waterloo Computer Science Admission 2015
Hey man,

I'm currently a grade 11 high school student and I'm interested in Waterloo's computer science program.  I heard this year's compsci was extremely competitive.  My grade 11 average is 93.3%.  In terms of extracurricular, I work at best buy as a sales rep.  I am in cadets.  I am part of U of T's math circle program, and I did well on most waterloo ECMC contests (top 25% award/distinction/went to a CMS math camp in grade 10).

How much chance do I have to get in (if my grade 12 mark is around the same)?  Also, I am pretty bad at english (84%), so just wondering how important is english compare to ad. function/calculus or other courses in the admission process.

Thanks :)
need good opinion for choosing better college

CPA or CFA First?
I am looking through the programs that Waterloo offers and there are two programs interested me: the Accounting and Financial Management, and the Biotechnology/CPA.

If I take the former, I can be a CPA/CFA. However, if I take the latter, I could only be a CPA. But the thing is, I want to do something related to science as well as business. I love technology so biotech is for me. That is set. The dilemma I am having is that should I go CFA first (I need to give up my biotech) or CPA first.

Which one is better off for me? Will I benefit from having accounting background before I get my CFA?

I want a CFA because it is recognizable around the globe unlike CPA.

What should I do??????

Waterloo GBDA vs UTSG Comp Sci
Hey! I'm having trouble deciding between the 2...
Which one is better in terms of jobs/graduate school?

I'm very interested in visual arts so i'm drawn to GBDA, but at UT i could pursue bioinformatics or human computer interaction.  Speaking of which, would you  consider human computer interaction to have a visual arts component? becuase the website is very unclear.

Choosing the right University and Program
Hello Everyone! I need your advice on what program should I pick based on your knowledge of the program or even the school itself.

Here are the Programs;

York University; (1) Science and Technology. (2) Humanities.

MacMaster; Humanities with Co-op.

University of Toronto; Economics.

Right now, my heart is telling me to go to Science and Technology because I want to do something with my life with a science. I can get Co-op that's no problem for. Anyways, I what like to know your thoughts about anything!

Also I would like to know any students who are from York University, what's it like and if is worth it. Also if York, has a good social life and does it have amazing parties

Thank You!!

Biotechnology and Economics @ waterloo

Has anyone been accepted to this program yet?
What were your grades?
I'm super nervous cause i heaven't heard anything yet
